The mission of English Language Arts is to provide students with a virtual curriculum which supports them in becoming independent, critical readers writers, listeners and speakers who communicate effectively in a variety of forms, for various purposes and audiences.

English 10

This course is designed so that students will be able to read and communicate effectively through writing, literary analysis and  critical thinking as they:

  • explore issues and gain knowledge through reading and critical analysis of traditional, classical and contemporary works of literature from civilizations and countries around the world
  • determine the impact and intent of authors style and purpose
  • discuss, expand, compare and contrast the relationships between and among the elements of literature including satire, irony, symbolism, plot and other literary elements
  • expand academic vocabulary
  • practice and expand comprehension skills and strategies
  • analyze non-fiction materials from a variety of sources
  • expand written expression with greater emphasis in research and literary analysis
  • develop and practice skills in speaking, listening and viewing
  • explore, expand and reflect on their learning through independent projects. 

Grade 10
Prerequisites: English 9 or the equivalency
