Supplemental (part-time) enrollment in Online Learning (Non-Resident and Resident District)

Supplemental enrollment means a student enrolls in online learning classes in addition to their local school classes. Enrollment in supplemental online learning courses as part of a student’s full-time schedule during the school year is limited to a maximum of half of a student’s full schedule of courses per term.

MPS district students may enroll for one supplemental class per quarter in addition to their full-time schedule.  There is a fee for Non-MPS students wishing to enroll in supplemental classes beyond their tradition school day schedule ($195 per quarter credit).

Here's how to get started:

  1. Find a course that best suits your needs. All of our courses are accredited to earn high school credit in Minnesota.
  2. Meet with your current school counselor to discuss your plan. Make sure you are meeting all local academic requirements. Request that your current school sends your records to MPS Online Learning.
  3. Submit the ONLINE LEARNING APPLICATION on this website.
    • If you are applying for a Health or PE class, please note that there are limited seats available. This means that Seniors and Juniors will have preference over other students. Sophomores and Freshman may be placed on a waiting list.
  4. Complete the Online Registration form and signed Approval form from Parent or Guardian and Counselor.

Comprehensive (full-time) enrollment in Online Learning (Non-Resident and Resident District)

Comprehensive enrollment means a student enrolls exclusively in the online learning program as a full-time student.  Enrolling in our comprehensive online learning program requires a change of school or district if you are not a Minneapolis district student.

If you are not already a Minneapolis Public Schools student, and you wish to enroll online full time:

  1. Enroll with Minneapolis Public Schools by going to:
    • Student Placement Services which is located at the Davis Center, 1250 W. Broadway Ave. Minneapolis, 55411 (on the North side of Minneapolis) They serve Hmong and English speaking families.
    • OR The New Families Center which is located at the Wilder Complex, 3345 Chicago Ave. S. Minneapolis. 55407 (on the South side of Minneapolis). They serve Somali and Spanish speaking families.
  2. Once enrolled in the district, fill out the ONLINE LEARNING APPLICATION and contact the Online Learning office (612-668-0254) to set up an appointment to meet with the online learning counselor if you plan to enroll Full Time. A parent must attend this meeting if you are under 18 years old. Please bring your transcript from your previous school(s) and any other pertinent paperwork to this meeting.
Fixed Enrollment Program

MPS Online Learning is a fixed enrollment program.  Courses are offered to students with specific start and end dates.  Students can register and enroll in our program during designated enrollment dates for each quarter.  We have found that students taking online courses are most successful when given specific start and end dates.
