Health Science 1 is designed to enable students to obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to make healthy and informed decisions for a lifetime. In Health Science 1 students explore a broad range of health topics that relate to one of the following priority area as determined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:
nutrition, dietary practices and physical fitness
prevention and reduction of tobacco use
prevention of drug and alcohol use
intentional and unintentional injuries
HIV/AIDS/sexually transmitted infections
The topics of study include wellness, nutrition and diet, life-skills, substance abuse, tobacco, alcohol, illegal drugs, communicable and non-communicable diseases, asthma, sexual health, abstinence and contraception, sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS, and family relationships.
