US History

Satisfactory completion of this course meets the state 9-12 social studies standards and credit requirements for United States history. This course is a survey of the history of the United States. Understandings for the course include:

  • How the European conquest of North America transformed indigenous civilizations, institutionalized African slavery, and ultimately led to an independent and democratic United States
  • How the American Civil War was inevitable
  • How industrial capitalism played an important role in American life and in the United States rise as a world power
  • How the postwar social, political, and economic forces changed the United States internally and in its relationships with the rest of the world
