New principal announcement

May 24, 2021

Dear MPS Online School community,

As you may know, MPS Online will be expanding its program to serve students in kindergarten through 12th grade starting next school year.

As part of this exciting program expansion, I am pleased to announce Shawntel Jenkins as the new principal of MPS Online School, effective July 1.

Ms. Jenkins has been an educator with MPS for more than 25 years. She started her career as a first grade teacher at Andersen, and since then has worked at schools in a variety of positions across the Northside. Most recently, Ms. Jenkins served as an instructional specialist for students at Harrison Education Center. Her experience adapting and modifying curriculum to enable student success and meet individual needs will help ensure the expansion of MPS Online School is a success.

Ms. Jenkins holds a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of St. Thomas, and principal licensure from Concordia University. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Prairie View A&M University.

In talking about her new role, Ms. Jenkins said she is excited to take online learning in MPS to the next level by focusing on innovation and collaboration. “The COVID-19 pandemic taught us many things about education,” she said. “We learned online learning can be a valuable and successful option where some students and families can thrive. My goal is to make sure we provide the best experience possible for our community through communication, hard work, and a focus on equity.”

Please join me in congratulating Principal Jenkins and welcoming her to the MPS Online School community. If you have any questions, please contact me at
